Bear ...

Can you put your birds in cages/dog carriers and bring them in garage or basement for the night?

Maybe play a radio outside, something to make lots of noise. Leave the lights on.

Some people say if you spray cleaning ammonia around it will keep them away, temporarily. I have never tried it, I know it works for cougars.

Good Luck but if you decide to shoot, shoot to kill. A wounded Bear is very dangerous.

That'll work. It did on me. I have a 15 mile charger & I was dragging a 16 ft. metal gate under the wire through the dew covered grass. I hit the wire with the back of my head, & woke up on the ground with a gate on my legs. OUCH!

Another time I leaned into it & had to take my shoe off to check to see if my big toe was still intact.

Run a line of hot barb wire. The barbs cut though the hair and touch the skin. I used this method for years and it works. But there is NO fence that will stop a bear if it wants on the other side. Just last week the neighbors had a bear go though four lines of electric fence chasing a fawn. These fences are around horse and cattle fields. One is souped up to keep the bull in.

Maybe your charger isn't strong enough? We used electric fences to keep the Polar Bears out of the garbage bins, successfully.
