So I hatched eggs a few years back.My hens included Columbian Wyandotte,Light Brahma,Welsummer,Buff Orpington,Barred Rock,Ameraucana(at least I think. Two weren’t bearded but I think that’s what they were sold to me as,and they might just not be up to the standard of perfection, since they came from a hatchery). I had Columbian Wyandotte and Welsummer roosters. One of the eggs (I don’t remember the color but I don’t think it was blue) hatched out my rooster who was an off white, had a beard and/or muff, and had barring under his wings. He had a flat comb and no tail feathers because the girls were bullies.I always thought the barred rock was the mother but then where did the muff come from?Do hybrids sometimes randomly have them?I lost this sweet boy a few months ago to what seemed to be a stroke and just want to know if the Barred Rock I have is his mom. Thanks for any help! The picture has him and a Buff Orpington I also lost recently on the back perch. The front perch is my Barred Rock and one of my possible Ameraucanas.I am open to suggestions of her breed however please be respectful!

Those "Ameraucana" are Easter Eggers and I think this is a case of a mistaken egg. A bearded hen is the mother so it had to be an Easter Egger. Even I get oops babies sometimes. Happens to everyone. Also in rare cases some Easter Eggers don't lay blue eggs so unless you tracked the egg color of each one that could be the reason.

So only bearded hens can have bearded babies if you don’t have a bearded rooster?

Agree with @Amer

Yes. Beards are dominant so only one parent needs to have a beard for the chicks to have a beard.
Well that’s crazy because one of my Easter Eggers was the only one who had a beard.I lost her 2 years ago.She was the sweetest best hen and probably my favorite chicken of all time.

So why didn’t he have any of her brown coloration? And why did he have barring if he was a Columbian Wyandotte/Easter Egger?
Silver and Columbian are dominant, and it sounds like maybe your hen was crele, which is where he'd get the barring. Also, male chickens typically aren't "brown" unless they are dun or chocolate since the brown is a hen-specific color.
