Bears!!!

We have gotten numerous pictures of bears that come around quite often. Our trail camera is set up on a trail that runs in the woods just behind our coop. The bears will usually visit the coop and get shocked by the electric fence and from then on that particular bear will only go around the coop but has learned the fence in a no no. This one was quite funny

Beautiful picture - I love seeing wild animals relaxed and just doing their thing.

I hope to catch some bears on our cam eventually - but only if they're not going after our chickens. I think we may need to go the electric fence route but haven't built the run yet.

Our experience has been that if you have bears in the area they will eventually come to visit the chickens. If you have no deterrent they will tear the coop and run to shreds. The only effective way to deter bears is electric fence.

You're likely right. We'll probably be doing our researching soon - I have to figure out how you pick heights and incorporate it with your doors etc. We were so busy reading up on everything else that I haven't touched that issue yet. But that's what BYC is for. Off to search I go....
