Its mothers day and i got up to put the dishes away and i hear this screeching. i go outside and my dog is pulling feathers off of my rooster. hes fine very fine but my dog got my other chickens too and we had the dogs pinned up inside and we have no idea how that one got out and we know how he got to the chickens. anyways i had two hens one ranaway and we cant find her and the other one is messed up.. badly but its acting fine and it just layed an egg it was soft and we threw it away but it has lost about 5-10% of its feathers and its going to be cold so its spending the night inside. I have never handeled something like this before usally they get eaten not messed up. Yes i know take it to the vet but are there any creams i can buy to put on the chicken or anything to put on it? thank you very very very much.

Accidents happen.

At this point, clean all the wounds and make sure to get feathers and dirt out. I had some stray dog bite into a hen and after a month of intensive care in the house, with a wound packed with neosporin, she was able to heal. Low lighting, food, water, clean wounds, and time. Mine recovered without use of systemic antibiotics. Only topical dressing. Good luck.

I don't know if you are in a warm climate but, you don't want flies laying eggs in the wound - maggots are very destructive once they find a way inside. You may want to keep the bird confined till it scabs over well.
