This is more of a rant than anything but I'm open to hearing your stories.

A little background: my sister and I are a day, a month and a year apart in age. You would think that we would be close but we are not. We are polar opposites.

Anyways we got chickens 2 years ago and now we are hooked. We're actually hoping to expand what we have so we can have meat birds and egg layers. Right now we just have 8 laying hens. Any eggs we have excess of we sell to friends and family to supplement the cost of feed and put us toward the bigger goal. Anything beyond that we donate to the food pantry.

Yesterday my sister said she needed eggs and she was going to stop by to pick them up. We used to deliver them to her if we were in town until she began to take advantage of this so now she must pick them up. Anyways she texted me saying she had no cash and if she could just use my paypal. She has asked me this before and I told her no. When she arrived at our house she told me I need to "be more professional with my business" to whit I informed her that we are not a business and we are not making money off this. I also informed her that we always have change and she could have stopped at an atm. Then she said it was not on the way. I inquired how she doesnt have at least 3 bucks on her and then she said something thats been nagging at me:
"Because I'm an adult"

Um...what? Not sure how adult that is. Anyway let me know what you think or your own personal stories. She owes me 3 bucks now.

I haven’t talked to my sister in years... she was “vegan“ (did not follow a vegan diet though) and decided to go off about how I abused my chickens by taking their eggs... nevermind the fact that my chickens don’t care for their eggs and just let them sit there and rot.

now I’ve doubled the amount of chickens I have, and the freeloaders haven’t been laying. Probably because I abuse them.

sisters are the worst, and brothers suck too. All we need are more chickens. :thumbsup

She doesnt buy from us that often because she has gone back and forth with the "vegan" thing. My brother doesnt buy from us at all for reasons I dont understand. Either way my family are not good customers. My father is always good about it. He usually just gives us a 5 and says the extra 2 bucks is the egg pickers tip.

I just dont understand how you cant have 3 dollars. I think I have that in change in my couch, my car and the recesses of my purse....

After working with the public for several years now, I've stopped being surprised by the number of "adults" that have ZERO cash on them. We've actually turned people down for wanting to use credit cards for a dollar bottle of water (because of the cost to the business to process CC charges).

I used to be a waitress and had only cash on me. Now I have direct deposit on my paycheck, and the only way for me to get cash is to leave work early and rush to get to a bank during normal banking hours and take some out. I do not carry debit/bank cards, I carry credit cards for the extra security since any fraud/theft would be refunded. I purposely put everything on my credit card so that I can run all my purchases through an analysis program for budgeting and tax purposes. My wallet is a tiny metal credit card holder that holds my license, 2 credit cards, and insurance/health cards. I normally do not carry a purse.

That being said, I do keep around $20 cash in small bills in my car for emergencies plus a handful of quarters in case I go to ALDI and need a shopping cart. And when I make monthly summer trips to the local Memmonite farm to stock up on veggies I always prepare and have plenty of cash on me. So I can absolutely see how people get by with no cash, but as an "adult" I am always prepared just in case.

I do have a coworker that is vegan and will only get eggs from me because she knows my chickens are spoiled brats who could care less about keeping their eggs. And she pays cash. :)

 :th

A lot of places have a $10 minimum because of the CC thing which I think is good.

I always have cash on me. I prefer to use it whenever possible. I don’t always have a ton with me, it varies depending on how much I’ve spent haha, but I always have some. And usually I have a ridiculous amount of ones and change I can’t get rid of for anything :th
