Because I am an adult

(where's the eyeroll emoji)
Give her what she asked for. 'Friends and family' $3 cash, or 'professional rate pampered hen eggs' $7 with a 3 dozen minimum. PayPal accepted. Tack on a late pick-up fee if you can.
Remember: friends are God's way of making up for family.
We had "friends" that would buy. But now we only have a friend that buys. Our other "friends" found a farmer nearer with eggs 2 dollars a dozen and abandoned us by saying our eggs weren't good. I'm praying that town rezones because chickens arent allowed in their city limits and they are undercutting everybody.

When I go shopping with my younger brother (he has a car) I always have money with me. But just how much does anyone need? If I run short and ask to borrow a few bucks till he takes me home he has a fit. I ALWAYS PAY him as soon as I get back home. I also try to match what he loaned me for instance singles or 10's or 20's - because he has a fit if I don't.

My question to him has always been how much money should I carry with me, $100, $1,000 etc. No I don't have that kind of money. But neither do I need to temporarily borrow very much. Sometimes I just see something that I would love to have and am short of cash at that moment. Women know if the store has only one in their size, etc. if they don't grab it up they will never see another like it.(especially at Marshall's or TJ Maxx.)Okay I buy most of my clothes from Lands End.

But If I am at a grocery store and run a bit short he still has fits. I do not have any credit cards. My grand father told me at a early age, if I didn't have money to buy something - to go without it because credit cards where a horrible burden. Because of THAT I have no credit rating:(. Gee all my friends are buried under credit card debt but NOT me.

You dont have a debit card? A check book? I used to bring my checkbook with me before I carried cash a lot. But then it got stolen. Now I just carry cash and my debit card. It's easier to cancel the card than the checks. My advice to anyone with credit cards is to only buy what you CAN afford and pay it off IMMEDIATELY. No minimum payments. I always pay the last statement balance and I just use it to buy gas.
I dont get why your younger brother has a fit when you pay him back as soon as you get home. I probably wont see the 3 bucks my sister owes me until she comes to get eggs again. It's not a big deal to me because she's family so I know I'll get paid back one way or another. Maybe next time you go shopping you could have the store hold it for you until you can come back with the money.

What? An adult because I don't have any cash on me? I have two daughters and always have to have some way to pay for something. The whole I'm an adult thing just sounds like an excuse to me, family sheesh...
It's not even a GOOD excuse. She just got back from Colorado and you should always have cash when travelling. It seems to me, and I think most of you might agree, not being prepared is NOT being an adult. The sad thing is she will never realise until shes in a bind without cash the irony of her sardonic statement

Personal thoughts.....everyone should carry at least 20 dollars in cash.

Several years ago my son was surprised by going to get lunch and his debit card was not working. Yup no cash and no lunch.
Turns out there were fraudulent charges on his account and the bank locked it down. Nope he did not get a text etc.
He was glad the bank locked his account but spent several hours very hungry because he NEVER EATS BREAKFAST.

Good thing he at least had enough gas to get home too. He commutes.
So i work in the operations department of a bank and see fraudulent debit card stuff every day. The bank will always make the customer whole and sometime collect the stolen money and some time have to eat it. Turning the card off ASAP reduces losses. We recomend always travel with a backup plan. Cash or credit card.

Placing a stop payment on a check usually only requires a phone call to your bank. In our case , stolen or lost checks are no fee to the customer. Since those checks are "out there somewhere" changing your account number may be an option. Replacing the card is also an option but will require time to mail you a new one.
I always keep a 20 or so in my wallet. Just in case.

I almost never, ever have cash. I just don’t. If I have cash, I spend it. I use debit or etransfer for everything. Occasionally credit, depending on the situation.

So I can understand not having 3 bucks in change because I rarely do either. If you never take cash out, then you would never have change from spending it lol.

I’m also in Canada and I think debit and etransfer are a lot more common than in the states? All debit cards have an access/pin code and most have a chip in them, for security.

All of that being said, her “I’m an adult” excuse is just that, an excuse. If I was going to pick something up from someone, and couldn’t etransfer the money then I would swing by the bank and grab cash. Simple as that.

Sounds to me like she was just being snarky and possibly trying to make you feel bad. I wouldn’t let it bug you, and I would make sure she pays you back before she gets any more eggs, otherwise the $3 will turn into $30, $40, etc. Dealing with family can be great, and it can also be terrible.

Yes I should have mentioned that the bank DID cover the fraudulent activity.

Thing is....and this is important.....
If he HAD actually been traveling and using his card....the shutdown card would have been a lot harder to deal with and no cash would have been extra horrible.

Something folks that NEVER carry cash should think about.

We had a customer who went on vacation to Spain and only took her bank debit card. Well, not suprisingly it got comprimised and had to be turned off. Leaving her in a fix.
She called and we gave her time to get cash from an atm. She then worked out something with family and her credit card company and was able to compleate her vacation and get home safely.
Some folk think it is somehow the banks fault when ther debit card is comprimised, however it is the terminals that you choose to use your card at or the manner of use like internet or telephone. When those terminals are not secure that is when bad people get your card information.
Remember the giant breach Target had a few years ago. There system was not secure and lots of folks had their info stolen. Even in our small town bank we had a couple hundred customers who had to get new cards. Very inconvienent for them.
