Hey everyone thought id introduce myself. I have 13 silkie hens (did have one rooster, but he got a little too violent so i found him a loving home. My 7 and 8 year old girls love feeding and caring for the hens so i couldn't afford to let him attack them. They aren't very confident with them yet either) i also have 2 shiny brand newbies from the rooster i use to have. The youngest being 2 days old.
One of my hens is so perfect for my kids, she runs to them when they go outside, eats out of their hands, sits on their shoes, if there is eggs in the laying box she will pile them up believe it or not. She was my first bearded silkie. We named her Maybel, because we found ourselves saying... Come on Maybel as we did stuff around the yards. Mind you we live on 35 acres.
The longer i have owned my chickens the more obsessed i find myself becoming, esp now that i have two chicks. I am absolutely loving learning more and more about them as i go. I am so not naming them until they show what kind of personalities they have, so i now have a Maybel, Old Marg (who took charge while there is no rooster), I did have Delilah who sadly, just passed away, Rexie who runs around like a T- Rex.
Well i have to say it has been fantastic reading about everyone else, and i am glad i found this site

welcome from a fellow newbie! I too have had the chicken bug bite me. It's truly rewarding to walk outside and be welcomed by your environment... and for those of us that care for our flocks that's exactly what we receive.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have a wonderful little flock of Silkies, they are such good pets! Sorry about the loss of Delilah.

So sorry about Delilah. But it sounds like you do have a lovely flock! Yes, chickens are highly addicting and it is hard to know when to stop bringing them home!!

Enjoy your wonderful flock and welcome to ours!
