Hello BYC!
I live about 1 hr west of Houston. I use bank sand in my coop run. It has worked well for me as long as we have hot,non rainy days. We had about rain recently for about a week and a half off/on, along with extra humity than usual. The sand is still retaining the rainwater and moisture. It smells bad. I've gone in there several times to "mix up" the sand to try to "air it out" , get it to start drying up. Its taking some time because we keep getting rain. I am looking to see what recommendations y'all have as to which bedding would be better.

Just about anything...... not really, am not a sand fan.

First, look at drainage in your run...is there standing water there?
No bedding works well in puddles.
Pics of your run might help here.

My runs have semi-deep litter(cold composting), never clean anything out, just add smaller dry materials on occasion, add larger wood chippings as needed.
Aged ramial wood chippings are best IMO.
