Hi all
Im expecting some hatching chicks this week. My supplier has run out of our normal bedding for chooks so ive purchased a variety called "freshbed" which has an anti bacterial pine smelling oil added and is recommended by a leading chicken society. However my question is...is this bedding ok to use as bedding for new chicks or should I just get a bag of dust free shavings from our local pet shop.

Only chips to avoid are cedar wood chips. Check label on what you will get at Pet Shop. Cedar chips are common for other pets like mice or hamsters.
WISHING YOU BEST........ :thumbsup

So are you saying that the "freshbed" bedding is ok.its a shreeded straw with pine oil for the antibacterial properties. Or are you recommending pine shavings (dust free)

I'm not familiar with the Fresh Bed. If there are others recommending it for chickens, then I would think it is OK. I just mentioned to avoid Cedar Shavings. They are quite readily available at pet stores. Not good for chickens. Pet store clerks may not be aware of this and suggest that cedar chips are great. They are GREAT, but for other pets.

Ok I will go for the shavings (avoiding cedar). But if anyone can enlighten me on the use of freshbed with chicks that would be great because its a huge bale :)
