I would provide plain wood shavings. I use fine or flaky pine shavings and it works well. The fine works better at absorbing and it easier to clean for me. I also gave treats at about 2 weeks old. This was how I got then to be more friendly and used to me being around. It's up to you mine are fine and I have a 6 year old and 3 that's are 3 years old.

Boiled eggs, and various veggies work as treats to. Mine loved tomatoes but now don't like them much. My quail were actually afraid of mealworms until they gave them a taste.

I give mine the whole thing. When they were babies I would cut the egg up into small pieces . Now I set a whole boiled egg on their tray and they enjoy picking at it and scratching to eat it. I also give then their own eggs when I have to many I don't eat. I've actually always stayed with crumbs for mine. The pellets available around me at the stores are too large for them to eat. I drizzle a product called kicking chicken on the crumbles and stir it. This is an oil with alot of vitamins and healthy fats.they love it and it helps keep their plumage beautiful. I actually never give mine grit. They only eat feed mealworms and boiled eggs nothing else so I guess that's why they have no issues. I tried to give then grit about 4 months ago and they never touched it. If yours have access to other food such as grass or something then provide them with grit now. If they only eat feed then they might not need it but if you feel like you want to put it out then it wouldn't hurt. I'm no expert that's just how I've cared for and raised mine and it's went well.

Thank you with all of that. I will have a look for that stuff but I'm not sure if I will find it as I'm in the UK. The pellets I bought is small so will try them with them once there big enough. Thanks again

Thank you again. How can I know the gender of the bird I know you can by feathers but can you tell earlier? One is crowing really loud out of 40 its the same one all the others is quiet. Are they more active at night as well as they was ok through the day and last through days they been running around and jumping at night. Plus the crowing one only starts at night

What type are they? Coturnix usually start laying or crowing by 6 to 8 weeks of age as do pharoah. Bobwhite mature at about 20 to 22 weeks I believe. How old are they exactly? Mine sleep at night and they do walk around and move spots but they usually stay put. They only jump if something startles then such as a noise or movement. Also my male crows when he's in search of his particular female or when he's away from the others it's like his location detector for them . His female will usually answer him in a sweet song and he finds her. Maybe the crowing one is in search of the others. Is it a crow or more like loud chirping? Feel free to post pics!
