I normally use pine shavings in the brooder but I have a bag of Wood Pellets I'd like to use up, can I use them in the brooder? Or will the chicks try to eat it?

Does anyone here use wood pellets in the brooder? Do you like them better then pine?

Are they for a pellet stove? People do use them, but do read the bag first. Evidently some have ingredients that would be harmful to chickens. If you mean the pellets intended for horse bedding, they are fine.

My chickens eat a little of any kind of bedding I put down.

I haven't used wood pellets but I'm highly considering using hay in my brooder next time. I have used pine shavings for the last 2 batches but I'm sick of digging the shaving out of the waterer. Maybe the grass hay will be better? Let us know how you like the pellets.
