We have decided to use hemp for the coop bedding, however, I think it will be costly to do our 128 sf run with it as well....What do y'all use for a deep litter method. Newbie here......

Wood chips from a tree trimming service is considered to be the best.

Yes, I’ve found that the wood chips work well!

I used to use straw from my field and a picked up a huge handful- it was swarming with ants!

Deep litter favors a mix of materials and material sizes, which is why chunky, aged wood chips are the standard preferred base material as they allow for optimal drainage and aeration.

After that, just add in whatever non-noxious organic matter you have available - dried leaves (which I save in fall for use year round), dried grass clippings, garden trimmings, pulled weeds, etc.
