Bedding in coop

Has anybody used sand as bedding for meat birds? I've been using pine shavings but was wondering if I could use sand.

Yes. I used sand one year. I think it is very good. I still prefer them on grass or pasture myself but sand was good. Dried their poo out faster and helped keep the smell down. Kind of.

Thanks! Ours do go outside but get locked up at night. I might give it a try. The shavings get so moist and ammonia smelling so quickly now that they are almost 7 weeks old.

You will have the same poop load regardless of which litter you choose. So if pine is not working, and it absorbs moisture, you will loose that property with sand. All the mess will be there under your nose… getting rid of stink is always a loosing battle. I suspect only freezer camp will help you here.
