Bee friendly fly abatement

I got these from TSC.

This is the refillable/reusable one. Caution: Put it downwind/away from your house and chicken coop. It absolutely STINKS like rotting meat. Which is what attracts the flies.

I have honeybees, so I know what you mean about not wanting to affect them. When I emptied these traps, I did not see any bees inside.

For this type of trap, place it well away from your coops and house. While they catch flies like a champ, they also draw in flies from everywhere, so you want them in areas where they'll be drawing flies away from your house - not attracting them to it! I put those traps on the outskirts of our property. I break open the bait packets that you get for it and divide it into three. They're just as effective that way and it saves money. I also use the fly predators from Spalding labs.

Hello All,

Are there any bee friendly fly abatement ideas? Thank you!

For years I have been getting a monthly subscription from Nature's Good Guys for tiny fly wasp predators. I get them from March to late November. They are cheap and amazing. I keep them by the worm composter and on the patio. Getting chicks in a couple of weeks and they will be there, too. We live in dairy and feedlot country and flies are a major PITA, however, when we have company they always comment and ask how it is we have no flies. It runs me around $20 a month. You don't have to subscribe. Also, the wasps are stingless and you will never see them. They will burrow into compost and manure piles.

These are perfect for flies. They can be filled with anything too. Dead rats are the perfect organic bait
