Hello! We have had chickens for about 2 years now and we are loving them! My kids can go in and spend hours petting and "training" their pets. We have a Cochin named Fluffy Feet, an Easter Egger named Gizmo, a Caramel Queen named Queenie, and an Amerucana named Sarah...as well as a pile of Isa Browns!

We are looking into more Heritage breeds because they are just fun, friendly and full of personality!
Looking forward to learning more and sharing!
Ebeth

Welcome to BYC, I love the name Fluffy Feet and that is a very apt for a cochin. Glad that you and your family are enjoying the chickens so much. Welcome to Backyard chickens, so glad you joined the flock

Welcome to BYC, Ebeth. Glad you decided join our flock. I know that Caramel Queens are sex links produced by crossing Welsummer roosters with Light Sussex hens, but in 50 years of raising chickens I don't think I've ever seen one except in pictures. Isa Brown is one of many labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, and I am well familiar with them having raised Red Sex Links for years. If your considering getting more into heritage breeds, you might want to consider Australorps. I've raised them for years as well (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

It's always nice to hear of kids getting involved in raising and caring for chickens (or any other animal for that matter). They can learn so much and have a great time with their pets.

Glad everyone is enjoying the flock.

Good luck to you and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
