Been here for a while but never made introduction thread!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I don't have any chickens right now, but I'd really love to get some soon!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

0 , I plan on making that number go up ;)

(3) What breeds do you have?

See answer above, but my favourite breeds are Rhode Island Reds ,Plymouth Rocks and Sussex. I have a soft spot for the rescue mutts though.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I don't have experience so I don't really know, but I think I'd enjoy just taking care of them as pets, and a big bonus would be not having a buy eggs.
.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Horse riding is about the only one I think, I just do trekking.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am a New Zealander, live on a rural scrubby farm that is an orchard project. I own 1 budgie, 2 canaries, 2 zebra finches, 3 diamond doves, 2 black masked lovebirds and 3 Fischer lovebirds, 6 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 2 socialized feral cats, one fox terrier mutt dog, 3 horses, and 4 pigeons currently.

Currently trying to breed some more pigeons.. Not been such a fun experience trying to breed them so far. Hoping that will change.
I reckon the next animals I'll get will be chickens.

I'll get some photos from my phone and post em here tommorow

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Google led me here via googling questions, I've know about BYC for about a year-ish but I didn't know there was such knowledge about other birds until recently, which that made me join. As well as after looking through threads for a while I really like the community, have had bad experiences with another bird forum that was a bit toxic, but not this one.
Well, welcome! Nice to meet you!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Toupee , one of our pigeons. I don’t know gender but I am really hoping a she, otherwise I’ll just have 4 males :fl She’s quite a special bird. Very tame, at first I could call her by ‘cooing’ lol. She’s from the SPCA, found on the street starving, no one came forward for her so they put her up for adoption. So we adopted her online. She was 700kms away from us including a different Island (I wish NZ was just one island!) so we had no choice but to put her on a flight, so 200 NZD later she was here. She got let out to free range a couple weeks ago and is doing well.

This is Cloud, another special way we acquired him. Just coming home from town and there was a tiny little fledgling feral who could not fly on the busy road, thought we had run over him at first but she escaped. It was so busy that you could almost guarantee he’d be squished so we went and caught him and brang him home. Had to force feed him for a little while. She’s been free range for about a year now and is also doing well. He is paired with another male I think, a little annoying but with no other hens I’m just leaving them be.

This is Silver, our homing pigeon male. Got him from a show a couple years ago. He’s out with his feral pigeon girlfriend right now. He’s bringing her back here and she even got some feed this morning so fingers crossed she’ll eventually decide to stay here.

Pebbles, brother of Silver and mate of Cloud. Got him the same place same time as Silver. He’s the big bully of the lot but still pretty charming.
And some pics of the other animals
