Been here nearly 12 years, rarely get help or even acknowledged on threads

Hi @nicalandia. I am Very familiar with many of your past posts, because even though ive only been a byc member since last year, i lurked for years before i joined. Ive read and learned incredibly much on the various forums, & came across many of your posts in the genetics forum. Your expansive knowledge of genetics Never failed to astound me. Left me in awe actually. I usually thought after reading your posts, "how can a person possibly know that much about color genetics?!!" I dont ever remember you asking any questions, but i likely wouldnt have known the answer anyway. As much as ive learned, i still often feel like a 3rd grader amongst college professors here And in my mind you are one of the elite professors for sure!
Just wanted to let you know i have Greatly appreciated the info u have contributed, and for me your genetics posts always stood head and shoulders above most all others. People often make more difference and have more of an impact than they ever know. So thank you sincerely, and please dont stop contributing.🙂

Hi again @nicalandia. Since this is the only thread ive ever seen you start (all your posts ive previously read were you replying to someone else), i hope you dont mind me asking you a question here. (And if you start a genetics info thread, please tag me! And tag others too; i think you will gain a large following). I wasn't exagerating when i said your genetics knowledge left me in awe. You answer other's questions with long gene sequences begiinning with "Ee', Pgpg, Dkdk, locus this and allele that, etc etc like you are reciting basic Abc's! What is the best best way to Begin to figure out what genes make what colors? Memorization? Genetics of feather colors seems to be a bit like algebra to me; sort of a series of building blocks? But i havent figured out the first blocks. Ive followed @The Moonshiner 's leghorn thread (which you've also given input to), and his thread has helped me identify various feather color phenotypes. But im still mostly in the dark in understanding the gene combinations that create the colors Professor @nicalandia , if u could tell me how to best begin to aquire the knowledge, this inquiring student would like to know. 🙂

I have a few threads here an there, for example one about the genetics of Red Sexlinks.

When I see a chicken I literaly see them as a genetic structure with punnett squares. I start with their e allele(e+, eb, eWh, ER, E) then se linked S allele(s+, S) then enhancers/diluters and last the pattern genes, it comes natural to me like buildinf legos, but I had to research on the names and inheritance of each of them.

Well see there you identified my first problem. Because when i see chickens, i see pretty feathers & hopeful faces wanting to know if i brought them treats! 🤣 Seriously, i'm gonna look up your red-sex link thread soon as i get a chance today. I have lots of red-sex layer hens. Ive crossed them with other breeds to make bigger eggs, and the red sexlinks are just one example of why i'd like to know more about the genes behind them, & what colors are likely when crossing to other breeds. (Meaning i need to understand the genes behind the other breeds too.) Sounds like i need to start my knowledge quest by re-learning punnet squares. Actually took Genetics 101 in college, & remember the basics. Was nearly 40 years ago though, & concepts sure did seem easier to grasp then. Thanks again for your input; i truly do appreciate it.

When I post here something of my interest or questions that might help me, I don't get any help. And I help as much as I can(rarely this year as I am just not motivated lately due to health and life issues)
Hi, Marvin. That surprises me. You have always been a supreme help to me, but you know so much more than I do, so I can't even imagine what I could contribute to your knowledge! We met on a different forum, if you recall, a rather snobbish one in certain ways, IMO, but you were always someone willing to try to explain genetics to me and help me get information through my thick skull. If I know whatever it is and I see your post, I am 100% willing to throw in my 2 cents for you. *but my challenge with the alphabet soup genetics designations remains to this day.

I'm so sorry that you feel this way. Sometimes intelligent people can intimidate others. I wouldn't know about that 1st hand as I've never been accused of being the smartest cookie in the room. But what I am is nice and compassionate, so if you ever need someone to chat with just drop me a pm.

I don't get this either.
I've known you for quite a while and haven't seen you post any questions or asking for help with anything that I can remember.
Acknowledgment? Like how so? I see you getting tagged often. Isn't that acknowledgment?
Honestly a lot of your posts come off as you know just about everything....
You will find That I am about 99.9% right when it comes to chickens
so most likely many members might feel there's not much they could add that you don't already know.
That and you speak in such a technical tone that it's hard to follow for some and maybe intimidating to some.
If you want more answers ask more questions.
