Hi! I read that it is normal for pullets to lay speckled eggs at first. I have just one baby laying eggs at this point and 100% of them are speckled. Some days it's really big brown speckles and other days it's tiny brown speckles covering the eggs. Is it possible that a hen lays all speckled eggs forever? If not, how long should I wait to wonder if their is something bigger to worry about? I'm s first time chicken owner and a worry-wort through this process. She eats fine and behaves fine (except she lost her voice recently), she eats grower feed and oyster shells. She has beautiful thick shells, they are just always speckled.

Also, I've never really had access to fresh eggs - is it normal that the egg whites (the thicker white part, that circles the yolk) to be ultra thick? Her eggs taste great but those whites are like next level thick, like freakishly thick compared to store bought eggs. Is that typical of a fresh egg?

Pullets/hens can lay Speckled eggs all their life. Not completely abnormal. Speckled eggs are my favorite.

I have a couple hens with thick whites. I think it's just the way their reproductive system produces it, but diet may influence this abit too, maybe.

Here is a pic of an egg with the big speckles (today's egg). It's either really big like this or a bunch of small tiny speckles

Speckles can be nothing more than excess pigment. Some birds will always/almost always lay speckled eggs. A lot of people like the look of them and birds may be specifically bred for them.
