Hello there, first time posting here. We recently adopted a 1.5 year old Peking duck that was raised like a pet but lived outdoors in a screened pen with a trough for water and swimming. We have two males and had one female until she decided she preferred living on the other side of the cove. When we brought Beep Beep home to Lake Norman (very large lake in NC) we kept him under the dock in a long pen where he had dry land, sand and also a decent size swimming area. He was used to sleeping in a dog crate every night so we kept the crate in the inclosure too so he would feel more at home.

Over the next two weeks we would let Beep Beep out for play sessions. I should mention that he loved to run around his old Mama's feet and sit, along with being petted and held. We were curious how he would react to us his new parents but he seemed somewhat calm and happy during these sessions. He really took to my husband and one of our neighbor lady's. They can pet him and hold him with minimal amount of biting. Some folks he takes to running and chasing after them but he'll also let them pet him if they are extremely calm and confident.

Last weekend we had a small party and had about twenty people swimming and floating in the water. We let Beep Beep out and he had a ball. He would crawl up on to the rafts and float around and then jumb off and swim with us. However, there were a few people that he would somewhat attack and he would dive under water to bite. My husband and Tammy (the folks who are best with him) ran interference and eventually we put him back in his pen because he bit a small boy.

The problem now is that Beep Beep will come when called by anyone and will also go to the sound of splashing. If there are young kids or neighbors playing in the cove, he will go and attack them. We have allowed him free rein and he has become friends with our two males and the mallards that hang around. I must watch him and the cove constantly so that I can put him in if people are playing. Is there anything we can do to get him to stop attacking people?

I really doubt it, he is male and feeling his oats so to speak, when others are in the water that you know Beep Beep will go after especially kids I would keep him up. Let him out only when you can supervise. AND
