I'm new to chickens. My first batch of hens are now 10 months old. Laying eggs like crazy (average a doz a day for 14 hens) and I'm loven' being around them...............or is it having them around me?

But I've a question about cackling! I love to hear them cackle. Does a hen cackle to announce she's going to lay, that she's in the process of laying, or that she's just laid an egg? [IMG]

Well, I guess I'll just have to be happy with the cackling, no matter what it's purpose. I got 14 eggs today from my 14 hens, so they can cackle all they like!!!!! [IMG]
  9. In my coop, it's before, during, after, and when ANOTHER hen is laying (I guess then they're the cheer leader section!)[IMG]

My chickens are too young to cackle, so I can't help you at all with your question. But I did want to second (or third) the compliments on your work. Exquisite, really. I tried to find some prices but didn't see any..... You know what they say, if you have to ask you probably can't afford it! But I still wondered all the same! You are really lucky to be working your dream like that...but it sounds like you already know that!
