Before you plug in your new incubator...

I agree... I know before I set my first... I read, bought a book, let a friend show me how (with my seramas) went through the entire process... When I finally bought my bator, I set it up for a few days just to see how it worked.

When I was testing I placed it in several locations in my hatchery (house) to see where it held temps best. I don't know.. call me weird.

One question that I have and I have seen several posts of this nature....

HOW DO YOU incubate with out knowing how many days they have been in the bator? I know the time, date, mood I was in when I set my eggs. I know because right next to the bator are my notes. I recorded each time I turned, temps, RH, Candled, moved, added water.. so I know how many days, when lockdown was to happen.

If you can't do simple record keeping.. (or even know when you set the eggs) .. Sell your bator (they have a nice swap shop here) and just order baby chicks.

Ok.. off my soap box.

My hatching schedule.. it looks like my dog ate it.

One of the reasons I made this post was because someone came asking for help and had no idea about not turning and increasing humidity during lockdown. I know that some simple research, even 15 minutes worth, can tell a person that information.

When I first got my bator I bookmarked BYC's "How to Hatch Eggs" page ---- and really that's just a starting point, but it's super easy to find for anyone who uses BYC

Basics is all someone needs to know to start. I totally understand the "I had a temp spike - OMG NOW WHAT" kind of posts. Its the basics I encourage people to have knowledge of first.

A lot of colleges have some good info on them.

Now if I can just get the rest of mine to hatch!

Maybe a link to it should be stickied here in the Incubation section (You know, for people who never get outside of the forum part of the website)

Even with all of the info, situations come up.

... and that's why we all help each other here.

I completely agree with that! I know that before I even tried hatching, I was here searching for information, and the basics for hatching gave me a great start. I want others to have that same great start!

I can understand the things that come up, because they are going to happen... mr. murphy will show his head.. Heck, until I read it on this forum I didn't know you could put candle wax on a cracked egg in the bator.. so I do understand when things come up. Heck.. I've asked questions, after I asked, I went and looked a few pages of old posts and found my answer.

Now I do believe there is NO such thing as a stupid question.. But.. I always do some research before I start something I've never done before.
