Well, hello there, neighbor!! :) I'm still in the planning phase, but I want to hit the ground running, so doing lots of intel before I execute! I'm transitioning from 30 years of supply chain management in food distribution (corporate) - the homestead vibe has always been in my soul. :)

I've decided that starting with chicks is definitely the way to go. I posted on the nextdoor app to find out if there's a market for fresh eggs, so I can decide how many to start with. LOL Looking for appropriate land at the moment - currently living in an HOA.

I appreciate the friendliness! Everyone's been super helpful so far!
Everyone here definitely is, you’ve come to the right place.

Just and FYI you have to register with the department of agriculture here in AZ, I think that’s the right dept, and have a limit of I think 700 or 750 eggs you can sell. You have to put them in plain egg cartons, no reusing, and they must say Nest Run on the carton. You can’t say free range or organic either and it has to have your information on the carton also.

Thanks so much! I'll put that on my to-do list! 😁

Hiya, and welcome to BYC!! :frow

You have so many tips up there but I'll just add some thoughts about chicks vs hatching.

If you ever think you'd like to sell chicks or raise your own rather than having broody chickens do it, then I'd invest in an incubator.
Having an incubator allows me to hatch my own to sell chicks, and buy eggs from hatcheries or eBay to bring in new genes or types. Hubby built me two very nice brooders which have been full this spring already!
