Beginner questions

Hi, I am pre beginner! I have a coop/run, period the end. I want to get ready for chickens, the run is built for the deep litter method, I've been reading about what to add and about stirring it so it stays dry. I don't understand....the run is outside in the weather. Also, I've read to use pine shavings, we had a pine tree cut down and chipped, can I use the chips? Do I put the water and food anywhere, like under the coop.
I have snooped around on this site, so much awesome information! Thanks for letting me join.

And yes, I think your chipped pine tree would be fine but try and make sure the chips are dry and not wet and molding. Might not hurt them if they were but I wouldn't want to risk it.
I like to keep the food and water out in the run - not in the coop - it gets too messy in there in my opinion.

I do use the deep litter method in the run but the run needs to be covered for it to work.
