So this morning i have another black chick and a silver one. 1 egg still needs to hatch. It was peeping yesterday so theres hope. That makes 6 black, 3 yellow and 1 silver. The silver and 5 of the blacks are from silkie cross eggs. I know that for sure. Idk what the siklie hens were crossed with but they have black fuzzy heads and feet, black and gold feathers to the shoulders, the one is dove gray they rest if the way and the other is charcoal/ black on down. I call them the Gabor sister's. So far only 2 of their offspring have 5 toes. Question is, is it possible that the 5 toes got bred out? I mean the hens are only half and the daddy's to the new babies are either a RIR or Cuckoo maran. So itncoukd happen.they all look alike color and sizewise but 2 have the extra tie. Is like to kno

Question need help! I am the proud chicken Nana of 10 fluff balls. They are 4-5 days old and ive had them with their mom fenced in inside the main coop so theyre protected plus the flock is aware of them from the start. Momma.is getting stir crazy and for good reason. I'm wondering when it will be safe to open the pen to let mom stretch her legs and let the babies roam a bit? Its open now but I'm in here too. Two of my hens who is a loner had ventured in for a closer look and things went well. Mom seems to be a good protector. But I have two roosters as well and 6 other hens.

HI!!!!!

I have a few or our 21 chickens and 7 ducks that have been labeled as "pets with purpose" and will stay with us until a natural cause takes them away. My 5y would have the ducks sleep with him if he could. Our Roo likes to follow us around and chortle at us until we give him a treat (his name is Doctor Roo, I think he takes after the 10th Doctor lol) I have found that chickens and even ducks make for interesting and even comical pets they all have different personalities and are rather social animals. we got most of our bad in February and raised them and handled them daily 3-4 times a day from the fluff ball stage I think that really helps them with liking people though we have one we call Kitty (she is leopard print) that would rather us dirty humans not touch her at all but it is just her personality she is above us featherless creatures lol
