Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

They arrived yesterday! Set 9 Ameraucana eggs. Only 2 were fertile... Both hatched! I haven't seen them yet as we were gone and they spent "lockdown" and hatched at a friends.Drove me crazy not to be there, but glad his 5 year old got to see the fun part :) A very easy process in the Brinsea mini eco! Yeah!

I am fantasizing about the Brinsea incubators.

Congrats on your new chicks!

Yep....I agree, that is the important part.
Three of the four from last night are out. I could tell this morning they were ready but there was all kinds of stuff stuck to them and they are looking rough this morning. One pushed itself out while I was working the other two out. They look like they can't straighten out but they are on damp paper towels back in the incubator. I'm hoping they are looking a little better before I head off to work this morning or it will be a long day for me.

I think before I hatch again I will make some changes for sure. It sure would be nice to have another place to put the ones that need help so that I don't have to open the incubator all the time getting them in and out and messing with temps for the ones still trying to hatch.

I will likely do the same but make sure the humidity is higher the last 2-3 days. I also helped one of the sticky chicks out. I know most people say not too. But, it was fine with some warm water added to reduce stickiness and clean its wings enough to allow it to move. The one that died sticky could have helped as well had I been home. Unfortunately they hatched early on day 18 and I was out of town! Won't do that again either. Did not know they could come so early. The lock down thing is likely true. As the humidity was likely lost when my husband opened it to get out the first set of chicks. All in all we are happy to have the little beauties we have. So friendly compared to the store bought 3 day old chicks (marans we call monsters). (Anyone want a Copper Black Maran rooster????) Cheers!

could I join?
my chicks are just hatching now (day 23) 3 out of 5 have pips, how long does it usually take for them to hatch?

the ones that have pips are a leghorn, ameracauna, and a mystery tan egg, the ones without pips are barred rock :)

It can take a long time for them to actually hatch like 8 hours is not unreasonable I don't think. If they are doing it on their own don't rush them, it's can be a pain helping them out. Good Luck!

I have a pip!! I honestly didn't think this would start til tomorrow night! I came home and the bator was only 96...not sure why...
