Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

My first babies! Mom is blue Ameraucana from Oregon spring swap, and dad is black Ameraucana. Set 7 eggs, only 2 were fertile. So tickled they both hatched! And excited that they are both blue!

They stole my heart!

I REALLY want blue chickens, and haven't gotten any yet.

Even as chicks I think the blue ones are the cutest! How do they do that?

I know, right?!? Love the blues! It's sad the blues dint breed true. Below is a good layout I found for getting blues from the blue/black/splash color birds. Guess I need a splash roo to cover my black hens!

Black x Black = 100% black

Black x Blue = 50% black 50% blue

Blue x Blue = 25% black 50% blue 25% splash

Splash x Splash = 100% splash

Splash x Blue = 50% splash 50% blue

Splash x Black = 100% blue

Tomorrow is day 18 for our eggs. Do I turn them at all tomorrow? Do I increase the humidity first thing in the morning or wait until the end of the day?

You are supposed to stop turning and raise humidity ON day 18. If you have them in a turner and are taking them out they will sorta get turned in the process, if not, I don't think it's that big a deal either way. Turn them one last time if you feel like it. I didn't take mine out of the turner till the next morning but I did start raising my humidity early day 18.

We had our 1st baby hatch very very early this morn.how long do I leave it in incubator b4 putting in brooder.we have 11 more eggs not hatched yet in incubator....

The question is really if the hatched chick might damage or hurt the eggs/chicks trying to hatch.

If there is enough space, so low risk that anything bad will happen to the eggs/hatching chicks, then he can stay in there for two days.

The problem with getting the chick out is that the drop in humidity might hurt the hatch.
