Hello, my 1.5 yr old Dominique had some poop on her feathers and a bare spot. I looked closer and her vent is clean and the exposed skin looks ok. She is still laying and acting normal. I am wondering what that black dot is though. Looking at other threads it's not quite the same as an ingrown feather follicle but I'm not sure. Thanks!

It might be a pulled out feather, but picture is not very clear
Hopefully these are better. The bare spot is below her vent. She is eating, laying, social and acting herself. She was even following me around this morning waiting for me to dig her a small hole for some worms! I was thinking she was one of my healthier hens, all things considered, but clearly I am missing something. I do feel some squish between her legs, definitely not an egg. Thoughts are most definitely appreciated!

If it is poking through the skin then it is not ingrown. The best thing would probably be to leave it alone but I'd slowly pull on it a bit with tweezers to see what happens.

Thank you. Do you know why she would have a bald spot right there? And the color is a yellowish with reddish looking spot. Just want to be sure it's normal as I'm leaving in 12 hrs for a trip. Hubs and DS are here this time, not another chicken sitter 😵‍💫 lol

I just think that she has had some feathers pecked and pulled out by another chicken. Chicken fat under the skin may make the pink skin have a yellowish cast. Are they getting outside to roam every day. Chickens will even peck at each others bottoms when on the roost. Some people use BluKote spray to discourage pecking.

Free range everyday all day. I don't see more than the normal pecking at treat time but who knows what happens on the roosts.
And she is one of the heavier so a bit of fat would not surprise me.
