being "top cock" and Ninja hens

2) I had 2 Delaware hens---arguably some of the most beautiful birds in the flock---but they had a habit of making what can only be described as the ninja sound that you would hear on tv---almost allthe time
now the one I know has always disliked humans from day one, always protested the loudest and fought handling the most when I was trying to tame them
Why do they do that? Is that breed just particularly noisy?

I need to apologize. I may or may not accidentally have taught your chickens how to be ninjas. These things just happen. Just be aware, never approach them in the dark, as you will hear a new sound, kind of a fast whoosh, and then it will all be over for you.

Seriously though, I couldn't tell you why they make that sound. Some chickens just love to be heard! I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if they seem good and healthy in every other way.

Where is this article about rooster reform school! I searched and nothing was found. It sounds like it may be a good read. Can anyone point me in the correct direction as to where it is on this forum?

If you type in rooster reform school, you will get the results Rooster Keeps Attacking Me. In that thread the article is copied in post #12. I wish I new how to get where I found it, but I don't remember how I got there!!

I could have sworn that Rooster Reform School was what it was called, but now nothing comes up.

I agree. Our roosters have never been aggressive to us and I have never kicked our older roosters (KJ and Mr Red, the absolute most respected and well behaved of our roosters) off of the hens. I love it when the younger roos are mating the hens and then KJ or Mr Red comes over and kicks the other roo off. I will kick the younger roos off the hens though, mainly because they like to pile on and all mate the hen at the same time. I try not to chase my roosters or any of my birds because I don't want them to be scared of me. However if we did have an aggressive bird I would definitely make sure that he/she knew his/her place no matter what it takes. Our young guinea cock is beginning to grow a wee bit too big for his britches, but hopefully he'll get this under control.

As for the hens making strange, loud sounds, I don't know. We don't own any Delawares but our hens make some pretty weird sounds too. (So do the roos actually)

I have a roo that had tried to become agressive with me....a couple well timed swats and him hitting the fence a couple times and he quit. Now if he becomes agressive with my daughter(she feeds when im not around and is 6) I will cull him on the spot....not even bothering to ask my wife.
