now the one I know has always disliked humans from day one, always protested the loudest and fought handling the most when I was trying to tame them
Why do they do that? Is that breed just particularly noisy?
I need to apologize. I may or may not accidentally have taught your chickens how to be ninjas. These things just happen. Just be aware, never approach them in the dark, as you will hear a new sound, kind of a fast whoosh, and then it will all be over for you.
Seriously though, I couldn't tell you why they make that sound. Some chickens just love to be heard! I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if they seem good and healthy in every other way.
