Hello fellow avian afficionados
I have been on byc for 4 years but somehow my registration seems to be unreachable, and I never did this newbie post last time so might as well do it now
I have had chickens for 4 years now and they are probably my favorite hobby. I also knit a lot and like to garden when possible. I work for a school district so have summers free!
I have one hen left from my original flock of 6 - a lovely old barred rock that comes running and follows you around whenever you go into the backyard. I like to let my hens free range in my fenced in yard but having lost several to a hawk, foxes and maybe another predator, they don't get out as often anymore.
I currently also have 2 rhode island reds and a black australorpe who seems to be picked on by the others. I also just added some young pullets to the flock - 2 I don't know what they are, but I think they're RIRs with a lot of white feathers in there, and 2 buff minorcas - very sweet little girls.
I impulsively also got 2 6-week old lacewing wyandottes that are sitting next to me in their brooder. I'll be posting in a forum about one of them as there seems to be a problem with one of their legs.
