My 13 year old American Staffordshire Terrier has Bells Palsey effecting his right eye and the right side of his mouth. He is also having trouble with eating. He has a big appetite but about 10-45 minutes after eating, he throws up. Some of the food is getting through to his stomach because he still has stools. He is otherwise normal--Can jump up in his chair and car, walks outside--it is just the eating thing that is a problem. A CT Scan shows that he is having trouble emptying from his esophagus to his stomach. I can tell that some of the food has not gotten to his stomach when he throws up.

Can anyone give me any idea on how or what to feed him and what I can do to help him? He is just too active to put down. Anyone??? Thank you

Paula

Hi ,
if he is having enough trouble getting enough nutrients vitamins and things you can give him Bovidr Labs Beef Nutri Drench. it can be used for dogs too. have done it with great success .it does not need to be digested.
you can give it to him straight through his mouth . the dosage isn't much ,it's very concentrated . it will give you an extra nutrition and stuff until you figure out the rest of your problem.

You may want to try feeding him upright in a chair sort of setup and having him stay like that for a period of time after eating to help the food move down the esophagus into the stomach. Look up chairs for megaesophagus and that should give you some idea of what I mean! It does take a bit of training but most dogs do very well with the chairs.
