Benifits of meat chickens

Where I live, there are some stores that sell fresh poultry (they process them onsite). You can bring your birds there to be processed for about $3-$5 per bird. Maybe there are stores like that near you?

You can eat any chicken, but the younger ones are more tender and good for fried chicken or roast chicken, the older ones are better for casserole or if really old then soup. And of course there are skinny layers with only tiny bits of meat on them, and then some really meaty chickens too.

We have a local butcher that will let you drop off live birds and come back later and pick them up all finished and plastic wrapped.

Also, for a bit cheaper, I on occasion see adds where a random person will do the chicken butchering for you.
