It would help determine how serious the internal injuries are yes.

I think this is an avian vet visit; if it's not into her abdomen, there's hope. Can't be sure from this photo. This will very likely need injectable or oral antibiotics too, and serious wound care.

Picture of wounds. Again, slathered with neosporin and redressed.

Thank the Lord I broke my leg and had surgery (two months ago.). Still healing, but I have sterile dressings and gauze. She managed to escape from her hospital bed while I was doing errands, so she is still pretty feisty. Pooped a huge broody poop…

Any suggestions for care are welcome, including scolding.

Keep the Neosporin on the wound. Feathers can be trimmed away from the wounds if they are getting in the ointment.
Chickens can heal from severe wounds. Keep her eating/drinking, the wound cleaned with saline as needed.

A game cam can give you a good idea of what's coming around day and night.
With a wound like that and chickens disappearing without a trace, I'd say Coyote or Fox.
I've never trapped either one, so can't give you any tips on that.

I've seen MUCH worse injuries heal. Wyorp gave great advice for wound care. I have a lot of hope that she will heal if you can stave off infection and flies.

And I accidentally killed one of my chickens earlier this year. She has sour crop, and she aspirated when I picked her up and caused her to vomit. It's a terrible feeling. All we can do is learn and do better next time. But it has taken me months to not cry when I think about my poor Jess and how she died. I am terribly sorry for your loss, and for the way I know you must be feeling.

A friend recently told me a saying that I really like for these hard times. It went something like, "Pain is the sandpaper of life."

I agree that chickens are resilient. I've had one literally scalped. I did CPR on her. She was in my Infirmary for 4 months with her BFF in a cage next to her. She survived and healed. So, don't give up hope. Keep that wound slattered with Plain neosporin to keep the tissue moist. Feed her scrambled eggs and keep her hydrated. She just might surprise you and have to be renamed the "Iron Maiden". Just like mine.

Thank you everyone. Please understand I appreciate ALL opinions, even if they are critical. No one can be harder on me than,…well me.

What is keeping me going is her attitude, and continual eating and drinking. She is very very perky.

Going to get more neosporin this morning As well as tape to hold the gauze wrap in place. No flies as she is inside.

Scrambled egg is working it’s magic… plus she had a huge drink this morning.

More news later. And honestly I appreciate every single comment I have received. Thank you thank you thank you so much. I don’t think I would be doing very well without everyone’s input.

About three months ago I bought a poodle puppy from a breeder. Yesterday while I was doing some outdoor chores I remember catching out of the side of my eye the puppy chasing one of the chickens. I think that is what happened as her injuries are at the tail and lower back just above the tail.
