Hello everyone!!

We live in New England, and my dad and brother are on a trip to Georgia. While there, they saw some chickens roaming free and they sent me a picture saying that they were "Bernese" chickens that are wild. BUT I did a Google Search for "Bernese chickens" and the only thing that was coming up was using Bernese Mountain Dogs for chicken protectors. These "Bernese chickens" look a lot like OEGB's to me, but then again I don't really know anything about OEGB's and I have never owned them. Has anyone heard about/seen these birds? They are pretty neat looking...

Here is the pic that my dad sent me:

Sorry about the quality.. He said that he couldn't get near them.

Were you in Fitzgerald Georgia? The term is Burmese. these are the descendants of Burmese red jungle fowl and domestic chickens which live in a wild state in this community.

Here is a youtube link
with the "Burmese" chickens of Fitzgerald Georgia. The National geographic special of "How Man Tamed the Wild" also has a nice portion devoted to the feral chickens of Fitzgerald Georgia.

Wow, their original coloration is still retained for the most part. Thanks for sharing.

The National Geographic special that I mentioned shows many individuals with more color range and variety but the black breasted red pattern is the most common.

Thank you all so much! Yes, my father was in Fitzgerald, Georgia. ;) He went to a museum there and quickly learned more about the Burmese chickens. There is a wealth of info on the Town of Fitzgerald website, if any of you are interested. I just Googled "Bermese chicken" and it was only a few down on the list. :-)
