Best age to ship

Having opened a box of long awaited chicks and seeing dead little bodies instead of peeping chicks (the very nice folks are willing to replace )but what I need to know ??

What is the very best age to ship chicks when it could be a 2 to 3 day trip???

The only age you can ship chicks is 1 day old. They can live off the absorbed yolk sac for up to 3 days, so they don't need food or water for the trip. Otherwise you have to wait until they are older and don't need food constantly, like at least 6 weeks old.

Sorry that you lost so many chicks, you might try getting them shipped a faster way, like overnight.

So waiting til 3wks won't work, sigh! Only 4 out of 14 made it. Still depressed. Last year the chicks came thru just fine from the same area I hate being the reason these guys died!
