Best bedding for goose house?

Hello, my six week old geese are clueless. The have a new 8x12 house; the entry is 4x8 with wooden slats for drainage and then the 8x8 section (supposed to be sleeping area). Currently we are using hemp for the bedding, but do they use that section? No, they prefer to sleep on the wood slats. What little poop there is on the cozy side is from just walking around or hanging out with me. What type of bedding do your geese prefer? Hay, straw, shavings, or paper. I was also thinking sand might be an option.

I use shaving very easy to scoop out the wet poo fluff and ready. I keep a thick layer.
