Best brand/source of chick starter feed?

I have used BOTH Purina's Start and Grow........ and a chick Starter from a local feed company (Onate Feed Co. in Albuquerque, NM)...... my chicks are growing like WEEDS and don't seem to prefer one feed over the other. The feed from Onate is cheaper (and probably fresher).

This month I am trying something a little different for my "Layer Feed". (to cut costs) I bought 50 lbs of 22% Layer Crumbles (Game Bird Feed, I expect) and 50 lbs of "Rolled Milo" (9% protein). I have mixed the two at approx 50-50 (a little heavier on the 22%). This should yield me a "Layer Feed" of approx 16% Protein (assuming the Hens eat the feed proportionately) It should also provide all the nutrients that they need. .....Any comments on this idea?

I use Nutrena as that is what my local feed store carries and my birds seem to eat it well. Once I ran out of feed and the feed store was closed so I went to TSC and bought a small bag of their brand Dumor, but my birds just pecked at it some but ignored it for the most part.

I ordered some sort of feed for chicks that was organic and fine at the time but the bag was too big and my 8 girls are not happy with it any more... I have since ordered the scratch and peck organic and I like it a lot! Its full of lots good bits start with a small bag of the powdered stuff and then graduate to the more exciting

its available through Chewy and Amazon and their site and is arrives in a day or two.

My baby chicks will be arriving in two weeks, and I am also looking for a good brand chick feed. What I do know is you don’t want to buy the medicated chick starter feed if your chicks have had the Marek’s vaccination. My babies all have that vaccine so they can’t eat the medicated feed. It would get them real sick.

As long as its not like China dog food, I'm not sure that one brand has that much edge than another, given how standard all these companies are in what they make?
