Best breed for eggs? Whats your opinion

^ i know a great egg layer wont also be a great meat bird. Not looking for a meat suggesstion. Just a good heritage egg layer. Not really interested in the hatchery stocks either as I think they are breed for factory farming styles.

Anyway the more I think about it maybe the idea of a flock of Barred rocks hens and adding a rir rooster and a BR roosters enable me to produce black sex links and still maintain pure BRs as well hmmmm?

Certainly didn't mean to offend you if I did Tim

AUSTRALORPS. an australorp hen actually has the world record for the most eggs in a year (364 eggs) the average australorp hen produces 300 and over. but the ones like leghorns and rhode island reds are good too.

Thanks Illia for making that clearer. They somewhat breed true because one is RIR while the New Hampshire was developed from the RIR from what I understand. I've tried to bring more of the RIR out in the breeding lines and that would probably account for why mine are darker red than others I've seen. Silky your right , how could I forget about australorps?! They are excellent layers and beautiful birds to boot!
