Best breed of Rooster

My son's rooster, Rudy, was killed earlier this week by two large nasty dogs. We would like another rooster, but are unsure the best breed. Rudy was a mixed breed. I'd like a roo that is not aggressive toward people or pets. Any suggestions?

There is not set "best" breed of rooster. It all depends on the individual birds. Within a breed, their can be very sweet roosters and very mean roosters. However, some breeds, like Rhode Island Reds, seem to have a higher number of mean roosters than nice ones. It might be a good idea for you to get a bantam rooster, as they aren't as dangerous. Silkies are especially good (though I've never had one myself). Any rooster can become mean and dominant.
