Best breeds & sources for brown egg laying?

I vote for australorps, plymouth rocks, rhode island reds (though I have heard some say they had aggressive RIRs). You really only want 3? and all to lay brown eggs? you should get a mix. one hen that lays blue eggs, one that lays creamy white, and one brown.

what area do you live in? do you want to hatch your own eggs or get day olds? or juveniles? have any friends that want to get chickens too? Alot of breeders and hatcheries have a minimum order so the best thing to do is find a friend or neighbor to convince to get chickens too and split em if you only want 3.

Why is that? From what I've read sex links make good pets-they are docile and friendly. Ours are very friendly. Too friendly. I haven't heard of them going broody much-your friend beat the odds. lol

google Barnavelder, they lay very dark brown eggs... I have one but she not laying yet (to young)

BLACK STARS: I have a hen that went 93 days without missing a day laying. She is now over 2 years old and I still get 3 eggs a week from her. Egg laying machines!

Yes, only 3 at least for now, and all brown eggs sounds great ;o)

OK, Rolling Hills Estates. Is that the one I grew up near in SLO?

From what I've read now after posting this, black n red stars sound perfect! Now only if I could find 3!

Does it really matter? You'll start with 3 and end up with more...and more...and more, etc.
