Best breeds?

My favorites that fit both of those categories are:
Black Swedish- they are really friendly especially if you raise them. And are good layers.

Pekins- are really friendly and highly food motivated. Meaning you can coax them into things by feeding them.:lau They are really good layers. Be careful with their legs. They can get hurt with their weight.

Cayugas- they are really relaxed and friendly. They are good layers, but not as good as Pekins.

I’m sure there are others, but I would say those 3 are the most friendly and decent egg layers.

Most of the time, excellent egg layers are on the slim side. Like runners, which are nervous and not as friendly. And your large ducks are calm and friendly, but don’t lay 365 eggs a year.:D

Great! Thanks! I’ll definetly look into those :)

Everyone is definitely going to have a different favorite. I agree with @Aquachick, but I only have muscovy so can be a little partial. ;) They don't lay eggs as frequently as mallard based ducks though.

Yes I completely forgot about Muscovy ducks since I don’t have any. They can be really friendly. Although I don’t know enough about them to know how many eggs they lay.

If you want eggs year round Muscovy isn't the breed they are seasonal layers like Mallards unless you live in the deep south then I understand they lay year round. And brood and hatch year round too. But they are awesome in personality.
