Best broody breeds.

I hear people say Old English Games are very good broodies. However I have never tried them as I want bigger fluffy chickens capable of brooding many eggs at a time. I LOVE orpingtons. Don't get the skinny hatchery ones though. Try to get a English or local breeder Orpington. They come in every color imaginable and are super friendly and fluffy.

Also, Cochins, brahmas, and many more.

You said standard fowl but Belgian D'uclles are great. They may be hard to find though.

Also there is a breed on the home page of BYC you may want to check out. According to the article they are great broodies. (nankin)

Do legbars or BCMs tend to go broody at all?
My French Black Copper Marans are extremely broody. Out of 12 hens, I have 3 currently sitting on eggs, 1 with chicks hatched, and 4 others that went broody in the fall. 2/3 or 66.7% of my FBCM have gone broody in the past 6 months, and they are only 13 months old.

I will hopefully soon, right now I have 3 golden comet hens, 2 blue Plymouth Rocks hens that are a year, 2 Cream Legbar pullets, 2 BCM pullets, and 3 st. Run Ayam Cemanis that are 9 1/2 weeks old. I’m getting some sussexes, ameraucana hens and Roos, true whiting blues, polish, and a BCM roo in June. It’s a lot but I’m excited. I hope I get a few broody girls out of all of this.
Are you getting any FBCM’s from Murray McMurray? If so, that’s where mine came from and they’re broody machines!
