I woke up at 2 am to clucking and screaming chickens to find a stupid fox trying to get in my hen house. I grabbed my pistol nad went outside to defend the hens but their are other houses nearby soni thought it would be foolish to fire. I want this nasty fox dead! Maybe should I use a shotgun? So the pellets won't penetrate the coop and hurt my hens??
I have a 20ga.
Or should I set up traps for it?

Traps. Silent then deadly.

Electric fencing!
Let the neighbors know, especially any who have poultry, within at least a mile, if you can. Someone might have a good shooting opportunity, when you didn't. Taking out a neighbor wouldn't be a good thing!
Trapping foxes is difficult, but might be possible. Then your 22 will take him out just fine.

This certain fox has been making it's rounds through the neighborhood coops. Last winter i was driving to work and it was running across the hwy with a buff orp in it's mouth. I tried to run it over but no luck

I'd go for #6 to #4 buck and take shots with care. With that said a trap is probably the most sure fire method

Trying to avoid this situation again....
