Best Chicken defense gun

I admire someone that can think when excited. Many people can't.

x2.
Thanks for showing good sense!
It's certainly different than the way people shoot around here. I had to call the cops once over the way a neighbor was shooting, not that he was shooting. He almost hit my bedroom wall! It was so disturbing that I moved my bed so that, from his direction, a shot wouldn't hit my head while I was sleeping.
People have to take lessons to drive a car! And there's a handgun I've been wanting but since I've only fired a shotgun, I want to take some proper lessons first so that I feel competent with it.

Smart thinking. Good for you! Everyone that want's to own a firearm or gun should take lesson's in how to shoot it properly and to learn the correct safety measure's of owning one.

I have trapped and shot many fox. I put the trap (a large hav-a- hart trap )in a black plastic bag and then put leaves and brush all over it, making it look like a den. I put the bait in it ( wet cat or dog food ) and leave the trap open for a few nights, getting the fox comfortable going in it. After he has taken the bait a few nights, I set it and he will get trapped. Set up a trail cam to watch the progression. I have also shot quite a few but we live on a large plot of land, neighbors are not an issue for us.

A couple of years ago I had a problem with a predator sneaking in and ripping the heads off of my sitting hens. Of course it always happened after midnight and before dawn when I was sleeping. I set out a trap for it with no luck. With the help of my dogs I finally caught it in the act. A possum. I couldn’t shoot it with a gun because each line of sight involved a neighbors house to some degree. So I futilely attempted to shoot it with a crossbow, then tried to smack it with the deck broom, before finally hosing it down with the water hose out of sheer desperation. The water stream was fairly powerful pressure wise and it was quite chilly that night but I doubt I really did anything but scare it. Either way the possum never came back after months of treating my chicken yard like a drive-thru. I bought a baseball bat in case something comes in, in the future that doesn’t heed the water hose warning. Like all chicken owners I am sure, predators are responsible for the most devastating experiences I have had with my flock and I try to have a plan for anything I encounter. This spring I had a hawk swoop in mid afternoon and rip the head off of one of my hens. I saw it through my kitchen window. I had to put up decoy owls after that. It seems to have worked. Good luck.

We've only ever caught a possum in the act. My husband dispatched it with a shotgun after I ran it away from the coop.

Set a critter trap inside the chicken door so the fox will walk into the trap to get in the coop. Drop the cage in water to drown the fox . No blood no guts no noise.Watch this video to see how to set one in the side of the coop.Skip forward to 2:20

You may want to look at how secure your hen house is to predators. I keep my birds in an area loaded with predators and they haven’t been able to get into the coop or pen. I’m not there at night or most of the day so I had to make it secure. Hardware cloth all the way around and under the coop and pen. I also run a fence apron around the entire perimeter of the coop and pen to prevent underground attacks. I’m sure my system isn’t 100% predator proof but I have been fairly lucky. The only predator attacks I have had have come from the sky when the girls were out free ranging.
