Best chicken for the apocalypse?

The duckies vid was cute and boy do they hog that pool water! I've always found the Runner Ducks one of the funniest I've ever seen!

SFH are beautiful. The Icelandics look somewhat similar but from all the owner reviews I've read about Icelandics they are hard to keep in a confined open range area - a bit unruly - they want to fly onto rooftops, trees, escape out of fenced areas, etc. The SFH on the other hand will follow humans walking around their pen - very friendly, curious, and calm.

Yeah my alternative may be the Speckled Sussex, since SFH seems like a dream that'll never be realized. Only thing is, I'm not sure how they are for temperament. Though Sussex are related to Dorkings, so maybe that helps. (If anyone else is reading, we're totally off topic here, not at all related to the Apocalypse topic. )

I was offered a free breeding pair of Coronation Sussex and would've taken them in a heartbeat if I had the room, the ordinance zoning, and no other breeds in the yard because I have been impressed with everything I researched about them when I was building my flock. I don't care for the colour of Speckled Sussex and got reviews that said the Light Sussex were the best layers anyway of all the Sussex varieties. My only reason for not getting Sussex was that they are very big chickens and I have 2.5-lb Silkies. Even though Sussex are reportedly calm docile birds there are still pecking order squabbles in a flock and a 2-lb Silkie doesn't stand an equal chance against a 7-lb Sussex who may decide she wants to bully just because she can. I also like the SFH and think they are gorgeous and tame but again I have to keep smaller breeds around my little Silkies. You may find the larger Sussex not easy on the feed bill but I think you'll like their temperament. Generally the larger the bird the less eggs per week they lay. That's why I'm choosing the smaller Breda and Dominique to add to my flock. Their eggs will probably be 1/4 oz less in size but more of them layed per week and through the winter months too. These are both considered gentle-natured temperament fowl as well.
