We have a mixed backyard flock. All of the chickens are handled by my 10 year old daughter and are friendly.
Barred Rock, best layer hands down. She also no1 chicken and is fast to put all the others in their places.
EE: jumbo pink eggs, my favorite
Light Brahma: huge bird, very gentle, doesn't hang out much with the other chickens large eggs
2x Speckled Sussex: med-large eggs 2 different personalities, friendly.
Welsummer (RIP):was my daughter's favorite layed well, cool personality
My friend has a large flock and got me in to chickens. Her 4 year old would pick up the chickens or have an adult set one on a swing so they could swing together. They are/were BR, black sex linked, golden sex linked. She is vegetarian and all those are very prolific.
Another friend had many different breeds but she got her Buff Orpingtons diapers so they could come in the house and they sat on the porch with her just to hang out. Her favorite breed by far.
