I’ve been letting the chickens/turkeys/guineas free range since winter is passing and the sun has been out. I was rinsing off my deck and found some poop with roundworms. Not sure who it came from, but I plan on deworming the whole flock. What are some good dewormers that are easy to follow? (Preferable something I can add to their water if that’s possible). I’ve never dealt with worms in chickens before, so any extra tips/information on how long until they’re treated, symptoms, precautions, egg consumption, ect. would be appreciated! Pic attached of what I found.

If you just want to treat for roundworms and aren't wanting to do something broad spectrum, then Wazine will work. It's added to their water, and has to be repeated in ten days. The withdrawal time that you're supposed to abstain from eating them or their eggs after treatment is 14 days.

Yeah, Wazine is no longer being made or it's on backorder. :idunno There are only two true water-soluble medications, one is called Wormout Gel, the other is Safeguard AquaSol, but it is very expensive and has a shelf life of 6 months once opened.

My advice would be to get some Valbazen and treat all of them orally. Give 0.08 ml per pound of bodyweight and repeat in 10 days.

These are the water-soluble ones mentioned above.

Dose is 47 ml per gallon for two consecutive days, repeat in 10 days.

The dose depends on what worms you want to treat.

Edited to fix dosing error.

Have you heard of Backyard Chicken Zyfend A? Heard you can still eat the eggs when using this.. which we need since all stores are sold out of eggs. ☹️

I have heard of it and it is *not* a de-wormer, do not waste your money on it.

If you want to eat the eggs there is one other option that you can use if your flock does not have capillary worms. You can give a very low dose of Safeguard for goats for five consecutive days. This will treat large roundworms and cecal worms, but will not treat and other worms. When this treatment is used there is a zero-day egg withdrawal. I wrote the instructions here:

I deworm mine with wazine in the water twice a year in the winter when they aren't laying and in the summer during the summer molt and they aren't laying.
If you have a bottle of Wazine, better check the expiration date. Wazine has been off the market for quite awhile.
Just for your info, wormers mixed in water are more effective during hot temps when birds drink more, not so much in cold temps when birds drink less.

Well, I just used the last of it over the winter and will have to get more this summer... and that's why I was doing it twice a year.

Wazine isnt being sold anymore on the market. I highly recommend Safeguard liquid goat wormer or Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer. Both are very effective wormers.
