I am just wondering: what is the BEST diet for baby chicks -- I mean little fuzzy butts who are less than a week or two old.

Is it commercially produced chicken starter crumbles?

Or would it be boiled, smashed up eggs from healthy hens?

Or would it be some of both of these?

Or would it be something else entirely?

I am hoping to get some fuzzy butts soon, and am wondering what is the best food for them, especially since right now I have more eggs being produced by my hens than my family can eat.

Commercial chick starter is certainly a good choice if you're ok with feeding commercially prepared foods or don't have a lot of time.

Or you can feed crushed up organic whole grains (offer chick-sized grit with this), fresh cut up fruits and vegetables, scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc, but you need to do a little reading up on what nutrients your chicks need in what balance.

Or you can offer the chick starter as the main food and little bits of other things as a supplement, this is what I do usually.
