! Great to have you here. Responses to your question will range from suggestions on dog breed and how to "chicken-proof" them, to "dogs and chickens don't mix." Personally, the dog in my avatar is a big time chicken guardian - he watches over them and protects them from harm when trouble is afoot - ignores them all other times. You can type in a BYC search using the words "dogs and chickens" and read numerous threads on step folks have taken to have their dogs and poultry peacefully co-exist. Good luck to you!!

. My suggestion would be to find a local dog trainer or talk to some local farmers/ranchers with LGDs who could give you some tips.

Alot of people try introducing the dog to chickens by holding a chick to the dogs face. The dog thinks they are offering a treat and will either swallow the chick or take a bite out of them.

Since your dog has always displayed her intentions, you cannot let them run free together. Your dog needs to be on leash so you can control her or being a secure dog run where people do not forget to lock the gate. Training her to ignore them can be a very long process ,. you may have to accept the fact that she may never prove trustworthy.

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is great with them - he totally ignores the chickens in the yard. Chicks are another story - he looks pretty nervous around them. I wouldn't let him have access to a chick.
