that is just awful!

The caruncles grow on you.

I agree that their claws are awful. I wonder if there is a solution for this.. For someone that has kids wanting to pick up the ducks, it's difficult to tell them they might get scratched enough to bleed.

I wonder if cutting them regularly would help? I am not suggesting the OP does this. Just wondering in general.

To the OP.. What about mallards? Khakki Campbells? I know the Campbells lay prolifically.

Thanks to all for the information. I am grateful.

No one has mentioned the Welsh Harlequin's faults, so I will order a few from Metzer's next spring.

Thanks again,
John

I've yet to find fault with my harlies John, good luck to you on them.

P.S. for what it's worth, I slaughtered 2 swedish yesterday and they were very decent roasters, better than the rouen I did most recently.

I would suggest Ancona Ducks.

They are the paint horses of the duck world. Awesome foragers for bugs and insects. They are very fertile and lay lots of eggs. They are calm natured and not flighty like the runners and they are just so darn pretty. They come in black and white, chocolate and white, blue and white, silver and white, lavender and white and tri colored. Here is a couple pics of some of mine.
