I need to expand my flock. We cannot keep up with our egg customers, several are waiting for eggs. This is our flock now

4 Barred rocks, 3 RIR's ( probably red sexlinks)

We want to raise some good egglayers , What are the best breeds for maximum eggs? I would like to have some different birds than we are currently raising.

Try to get some new hampshire reds or some black sexlinks they too are good you don't want americana's or easter eggers or araucana's they give about three eggs every five or six days reds and barred rocks are the best that you can get and you have those so I would just try to get some more of what you have if you want all brown eggs if you want some white eggs try the leghorns or the anicona's they are great egg shooters almost daily very seldom take a break . Good luck!! Oh ps. I forgot there is also a production red and black they are excellent egg producers of brown eggs I am getting some from ideal tuesday I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Leghorns are great layers if you're ok with white eggs. RIR have been our best brown layers. I've heard that the red and black sex-links are really great, but I don't have any personal experience with them.

I wanted an egg laying flock and went with RIR's, Barred Rocks, Black Sex Links, Australorps and Speckled Sussex (while the sussex isn't as prolific, it still lays 4-5 per 7-day week). Plus the Aussie's, Sussex's and BR's are some of the sweetest birds on the market!! How many eggs do you sell by the way, if I may ask?

I tried almost most commen breeds, I have Barred rocks, buff Orp, speckeled susex, black australope, EE, brown leghorn, and RIR and to say the truth RIR are the best layer ever.

My best layers are my Mottled Javas, but I don't have breeds famous for laying either,

My nephew has 10 Red Sex links and he gets 9 or 10 eggs everyday.. They are huge eggs, the lid will not even come close to closing on a 'large' egg carton. Every one of the eggs are almost round..
If I wanted JUST eggs I would go with them. His wife has them completely tame--they will sit on her lap and eat from her hand..

I agree with above, My RSL's are great. Big beautiful brown eggs every day, and through out the winter. I want to expand as well and am looking @Black Australorp and Silver laced Wyandotte. The shipment comes in on 3/2/10. The workers say I have to be there @ 9:00, but my son has a Dr's appt @ Children's @ 10:40 It's impossible, so DH is going to try and get the day off... "Family Leave"...It could work?huh????
